Karate
Karate is a martial art originating from Okinawa, Japan, which has evolved over centuries. Its exact origins are uncertain, but it is believed to have emerged from the combination of fighting techniques from different countries with the self-defense techniques of the inhabitants of Okinawa. From the 20th century onwards, karate began to spread worldwide and is now practiced in over 190 countries.
Karate is a practice that involves discipline and self-control, as well as the physical and mental development of practitioners. The discipline is divided into katas, which are pre-defined sequences of movements, and kumites, which are sparring matches between practitioners. The sport is recognized as an Olympic discipline and will make its debut at the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021.
In addition to being a sport, karate is an important aspect of Japanese culture, which values discipline, respect for elders, and the constant pursuit of personal improvement. The philosophy of karate has influenced not only the practitioners of the sport but also other areas of life such as education, business management, and society as a whole.
